Hip Hop Is A Community
Jeff Johnson is the Executive Director of Truth is Power and the host/producer of BET’s Cousin Jeff’s Chronicles. He also provides commentary on NPR’s News and Notes and is the co-editor of the new book, Let’s Get Free: Strategies for Organizing the Hip Hop Voting Bloc. Jeff was a panelist for “Rap Sessions: Community Dialogues on Hip-Hop” at Northeastern University. His passion for the power of the hip hop community to bring about progressive change in this society was incredible. Throughout his remarks, Jeff emphasized strategy and organizing as the keys to success for the hip-hop movement. My question to Jeff was whether the hip-hop community (as any community) would be in danger of imploding from within and if so, what would be the catalyst.
